Music Hall Celebrates Seven Years in Business

Hi Everyone,

I’ve had three cups of coffee so let’s get this thing started. Vroom, Vroom.

This Sunday, September 11 is the SEVEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry! I’d like to say once again that we would have never got here without all of our wonderful patrons who attend shows and have spread the word about our venue. Thanks to all of you! As you are probably aware, most venues don’t make it to their 5 year anniversary. I look forward to our seventh this Sunday and many more years of live music in Londonderry!

I am VERY excited about our new booking with Brett Dennen. If you listen to 92.5 The River, you can’t miss Brett. They are playing two of his songs “Make You Crazy” and “Comeback Kid (That’s My Dog)”. Brett is an amazing talent and I am THRILLED that he is playing our venue. Do not miss this one. If you do, you’ll be telling friends in a couple of years how lame you were for not seeing him at Tupelo when you had the chance! (If you can’t tell, I like him. A lot.)

A good friend of mine got a new car last week. Something about that new car smell. I don’t know—maybe it’s just me.

Our show with LEO KOTTKE this Thursday is going to be simply amazing. We still have some tickets available for this show, which is a huge surprise to me. Leo is one of the biggest guitar virtuosos on the circuit today. Seeing him in a small venue like Tupelo is insane.

The show that we booked with Entrain and announced last week has needed to be changed due to a scheduling conflict. The new date is going to be Saturday, November 5. If you have already purchased tickets to this show, you’ve already been informed of this change and can skip this paragraph (oops—too late).

We’ve booked TWO great new shows this week!

October 22 Steve Blunt (Children’s show at 12:00 noon)
November 21 Brett Dennen

I hope you are all having a spectacular week!

Kottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations, a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and he continues touring globally.

The Adam Ezra group has been compared to the Dave Matthews Band, or to a hipper Dan Fogelberg. They’re known for a dynamic acoustic roots/rock sound combining smart well-written lyrics and powerful musicianship. In 2007, they were rated one of New England’s top five mountain bands by Ski Magazine. In the past years, they have shared the stage with the Goo Goo Dolls, Guster, John Mayer, Aerosmith, Dave Matthews Band, Carbon Leaf, The Wailers, Pete Seeger, State Radio (from Dispatch), The Pat McGee Band and more.

Throughout his career, Jeffrey Gaines has built a rapport with his fans unlike any other in popular music today. Gaines goes as far as letting his fans influence the songs he performs each night. “When it’s just me playing, I only know the first song I’m going to play, but from there the energy and the vibe tell me what the next song is gonna be. Someone may yell a song, and I’m like Exactly! Good call”
Willie Nile is a songwriters’ songwriter and his live performances are legendary. He has toured across the U.S. opening for The Who at the personal request of the band and sang with Bruce Springsteen at Giant Stadium. The New York Times called him “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years.” His album “Streets Of New York” was hailed as “a platter for the ages” by UNCUT magazine. He has been called “a one-man Clash” (UNCUT) and his critically acclaimed albums have gotten rave reviews around the world. Bono, Lou Reed, Lucinda Williams, Jim Jarmusch, Adam Duritz and Little Steven are among those who have sung his praises.

September 11 RENAISSANCE

November 21 BRETT DENNEN
“In many ways this is my first album,” Brett Dennen says of his newest record, Loverboy. In these last two years I’ve really been thinking, if this is what I want to do then I have to do it in a way that keeps me healthy and happy. I need to take care of my body with nutrition and exercise. I need to take time off, even if I don’t want to, and actually appreciate and enjoy it. And I want to bring all of that balance to my fans. That’s what this record is really about. I want people to put on Loverboy and feel good. I want to make people dance!”

About the author

Scott Hayward is a Derry native who graduated from Pinkerton Academy and Wake Forest University, where he majored in English. While working as a financial planner and looking for investment property in 2004, he came across a building for sale in Londonderry. Then called The Muse, Hayward attended a performance and knew immediately what he wanted to do. After purchasing and doing a major remodeling of the facility, while learning as much as possible about the music business, he opened Tupelo Music Hall on September 11, 2004. Tupelo has since become a huge hit with both music lovers and the many artists who take the stage. The venue has received much critical acclaim and has grown each year in number of performances, attendance, and revenue. Hayward credits the success of the venue to the guiding principles of the business; to present top-flight artists in an intimate and comfortable environment with excellent acoustics and first-class sound reproduction, and to provide a memorable experience for the audience and for the artist. In October 2010, Hayward opened a second Tupelo Music Hall in White River Junction, Vermont, using the Londonderry model. He also operates Tupelo Venue Management, a company providing consulting, booking, and management services to other music venues.
