With this weekend’s weather looking more like July’s weather than October’s, the four farms in Londonderry will be hustling and bustling! Add to that that it’s a holiday weekend for many, and parents will need to find a way to keep children entertained. That’s where Elwood Orchards comes in.

The southern Londonderry orchard is a wonderful way to spend the day. One can apple pick and pumpkin pick. Or come to the orchard and spend hours lost in the area’s largest corn maze, and enjoying free hay rides! Elwood Orchards is the only farm in Londonderry that features a corn maze and hay rides.

The farm is still run by Mr. Elwood, now well into his 90’s. He can see be seen out and about on the farm, ringing up customers or chasing varmint away from his prized corn.

This year’s price for the maze, now about eight acres big, is $7 per person, with children 5 and under free. The corn maze opens daily, along with the rest of the farm, at 8 AM. The maze is open into the night during the entire month of October for added spooky fun! The hayrides are absolutely free for everyone.

Stop by Elwood Orchard this weekend; the weather will be just right of spending a day outside. Click here to learn more about Elwood or to get directions.

About the author

Jacklynn has been a resident in Londonderry since the age of 5. She grew up in a quiet neighborhood and went through the great school system. She has fond memories of bike riding through town in the spring and summer, sledding in the winter, and apple and pumpkin picking in the fall. She now has children of her own and looks forward to raising them in the same town she enjoyed so much as a youth.

Thanks, Jacklynn for the great information! I’m fairly new to Londonderry and really enjoy reading your pieces about its history. I’m at the corner of Elwood Rd so I visit the farm/s frequently. (Elwood Farm sign is in my yard!) I’m off to the maze this afternoon!
