Papa Gino’s Raises Funds for Celebration of Giving

Krysten Gosztyla chose her mom, a cancer survivor, to cut her hair at last year's ceremony.

For five years, Londonderry High School has held an emotional pep rally in which hundreds of locks of hair are donated for cancer patients. Called the Celebration of Giving Ceremony, the rally has become part of Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Last January, more than 200 people participated in the donation, giving up more than 1,600 inches of hair. So far, 168 have pledged for the 2012 ceremony.

Those who pledge to donate their hair receive a free “I Pledged” t-shirt to wear immediately, and another blue Pantene t-shirt to wear during the ceremony. Though the cost of creating and distributing the wigs is covered by Pantene, the cost of the t-shirts falls in the hands of the organizers of the event. Because of this, the high school hosts an additional fundraiser for the cost of the shirts.

This year’s fundraiser will be held this Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Papa Gino’s in Londonderry. Scheduled to be held from 1 PM until 4 PM, the fundraiser will donate 20% of all orders to help cover the school’s costs. In order to participate in the fundraiser and ensure that the money is donated, patrons need to bring in a specific form. The donation will only be made if the form is provided, and can only be made through dine-in or take-out; delivery is not included in the fundraiser. Be sure to print a copy and take it along with you to make a donation! Click here to visit the article on Londonderry News and print a form!

“I know you have been dealing with no power, and probably had your fill of take-out when they have been open, but we are hoping you will stop in and make a purchase for us,” said Steven Juster, Londonderry High School English Teacher and Pantene Beautiful Lengths Coordinator. “We chose Sunday because of the Patriots-New York Giants game at 4:15. Since most of us had no television for the Steelers game, it has been weeks since we have watched a Pats game. Maybe Papa Gino’s food will bring them good luck. I know it will help us.”

The annual Londonderry ceremony has become such a renowned event, Pantene Beautiful Lengths created a short non-fiction film. The film features cancer patients and survivors, representatives from the American Cancer Society, and many familiar faces from Londonderry. Be sure to grab a box of tissues and watch this moving video.
