Londonderry Santa Watch Begins!

Dec 24, 2011 No Comments by

The annual Santa Watch has begun! Londonderry High School’s radio station, LEO-103, is monitoring the skies for the sleigh pulled by eight or nine reindeer. Together with other school radio stations across Canada and the United States, WLLO is tracking Santa as he makes his way south to Londonderry.

The tradition of Santa Watch goes back to 1955, when a mix-up with a telephone number directed children to call the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) instead of Santa. A colonel with a sense of humor started telling kids where Santa was on the radar.

This year, in a new twist, one lucky high school student gets an exclusive opportunity to ride along with Santa as he makes his way throughout Londonderry. In this update, Santa arrives and begins his travels throughout town. Along the way, he clears up some rumors circulating about his name, and takes the student on an adventure at Mach 1 speeds!

To hear the latest audio update, listen to the broadcast On-Demand.

These updates will be posted online on Visit Londonderry every 20 minutes, as they are happening, from 7 PM until just before 9 PM tonight. You can also tune in to 102.9 FM and LEO-21 on tv to hear the live updates. Continue checking back to find out when Santa will arrive in Londonderry, and if you missed any live reports you can listen here On Demand. We recommend for on-demand you begin at 7 PM and work towards the end.

These broadcasts are a production of Londonderry High School Students and Radio Club Members.
