This Saturday, April 21, 2012, Stonyfield will host its second annual Earth Day 5k and Fair. The event will feature vendors and activities that promote health and sustainability, as well as a series of kids’ races for all ages, sustainable products, living tips and activities, and of course, yogurt!

Last year's Stonyfield 5k drew more than 1,100 participants.

Beginning with the 5k at 1o AM, participants of all abilities will traverse along a relatively flat loop course. Those that participate will receive a commemorative organic cotton tee-shirt and will be treated to a variety of natural and organic snacks and drinks. The race is open to jogging strollers, but pets will not be allowed.

Following the 5k, at 11 AM, a series of kids’ races will be held. These races are free and open to a variety of ages. A 50 yard trot for ages three and under, a quarter-mile course for ages four to seven, and a half-mile course for ages eight to ten will all be held. Registration for these events is held on race day only.

Participants run through rain during last year's Stonyfield 5k.

The Earth Day Fair will also begin at 11 AM and is open to all. This free fair will feature live music from “Hot Day at the Zoo”, sustainable product samples, and organic treats. Exhibitors will include Earthtech, Organic Valley, Rustic Crust, and more.

Stonyfield will donate 10% of all proceeds to worthy causes that protect and restore the Earth. This year’s recipients include the “Eco Sense” club at the Londonderry High School and a college-bound senior with plans to study in the environmental or health fields in the form of a scholarship.

In keeping with the “green” theme, the majority of the waste from the fair and races will be recycled or composted. Also, a carpool rideshare program is available for those interested.

Registration for the 5k is currently open. The first 1,000 registrants will receive a discounted price of $20. After the first 1,000, participants will pay $25. Race day registration, if available, will cost $30. Registration fees for youth 17 years of age and under is discounted to $15 before the race, or $20 the day of.
