The amazing thing about being part of Visit Londonderry is that I never know exactly where a week will lead. Even though I have lived here since the 60?s, grew up at Kendalwood Condos, taught at the High School, and raised my family here, each day I learn something special about our community. One thing is for sure, Londonderry is the best place to Live, Work and Play! Each week I will share with you some of the amazing businesses and things I have learned about Londonderry.
Traveling around and spreading the word to our community about Visit Londonderry always brings me to unexpected things that are right here waiting for all of us to explore. For some reason this week, seemed to be an equal mix of phone calls to visits, and that really has not happened before. Remember I was a Home Economics teacher for years, teaching everything from cooking/nutrition to childcare and career planning! Mixing and stirring things around have always been a part of me!
One of my first phone calls this week, really meant the world to me. This took place with Jim from Tiffany Gardens Bed and Breakfast, one of the most lovely Bed and Breakfasts in New England, and it’s right here in the King’s Area of our Town. What touched my heart about Jim, was that last week we talked and he said I could call him Sunday morning after a wedding party had left. When I called it went right to voice mail. I was a little disappointed, and thought honestly, oh he probably won’t call back. Low and behold about 15 minutes later he did! Now that might sound silly, but it really is those little things in life that can change another person’s day. He knew I wanted to bend his ear about something I love and believe in our Commerce and Visitors Center. I knew he and Kathy had to be tired after taking care of their guests throughout the weekend… but he still called back and listened, too!
Jim probably learned more than he wanted to know about Visit Londonderry, but I also learned from him about Benson’s Wild Animal Farm. He reminded me that Benson’s Wild Animal Farm in Hudson has become a beautiful recreation area that is free for all of us to enjoy. When they re-opened in 2010, John, the girls and I went for a walk around Benson’s to see what it was like. I still have my dad’s old super 8 film reels with me standing by the Gorilla cage back in the 60’s, well the cage is still there! Jim reminded me that so many additions have been made since it first opened. He and his wife Kathy donate many hours rehabilitating the grounds and trails that now surround it. For many of us it will be a walk down memory lane. We hope to go back this weekend, when the rain stops.
Another business in town that I think we often take for granted is Prudential Verani Real Estate. They have been here in Londonderry for years. When I think of Prudential Verani the first thought I have is …“They are really what Londonderry is all about, good people helping each other along the way, and making our community strong”. Whenever I e-mail or call Giovanni with a question or ask him to do something to help spread the word about so many great things going on in Londonderry. He never hesitates. Giovanni, like Jim, if he say’s he will do it for you, you can count on him that he will, and usually almost immediately gets it done. Again the little things that make a difference… at Old Home Days he saw we were running low on some of our handouts for the kids at our first Visit Londonderry Booth. Giovanni came over with all kinds of things to help us out. They are just a nice family run and orientated company to work with or to work for. Another great welcoming smile, too!
Strangely the next small business I want to share with you, I found through Prudential Verani. This part of my Visit Londonderry week I get a little embarrassed about. B & S Total Cleaning (603) 496-5276. Total.clean1 (at) hotmail.com A dear friend gave me their card when I was feeling knee high in cleaning. I was an ex-Home Ec. Teacher with two helpful daughters, how did I get so behind? My friend encouraged me to call and I did… I guess that was three years ago. If you ever need a helping hand or a real treat for yourself and family give them a call. What I love about Erica and Ianka is that they are trustworthy, kind, and do an amazing job of giving us all a fresh start whenever I call. John, loves that the price is very low and they do not make us commit to every week or two. They even volunteered to help me organize my attic, where no person should have to go! Many of our members already use them. There are no words to describe how it feels to walk into my house, when they are done and just look around. It kinda feels like when I cover my grays every couple months or find that only once in a while perfect chocolate bar from Godiva, the one with the caramel and nuts, oh and sea salt too!
Family Rentals is located in the building to the left at One Action Blvd. in this image. Just off exit 4 a state berm on 102 hides the business from view.
This happens each week, there are just so many wonderful businesses and places I want to tell you about, but I know I must end somewhere, and I apologize to those of you who are kind and read my little column. However, I have to tell you about just one more for this week…. Did you know that right here in Londonderry we have our own Furniture Rental Business! I walked through the doors, without an appointment, of Family Rentals Furniture, 1 Action Boulevard. (Remember you never know how a business will respond) This great friendly voice welcomed me from the back of the store. Danny explained to me that they have been there for 5 years, helping and working with many families businesses throughout our area. I was surprised that you can rent, buy or rent with the option to buy later. They are the only store of this kind in our area and I didn’t even realize they were there. The selection is beautiful, just about everything you could possibility need at very reasonable prices, too.
This week I enjoyed many phone calls, drop by visits and e-mails while sharing the story of Visit Londonderry…. Thank you so much for reading <3
