Huge Lineup for Old Home Day Saturday

Like a raffled off gift basket, Saturday’s Old Home Day celebration is packed full of goodies! The day is off and running at 8 AM with the annual Londonderry Lundgren 5K Road Race. Then nearly 10,000 people will line the 1.2 mile stretch of Mammoth Road while businesses and non-profits, bands and sports teams, politicians and special guests march to Mack’s Apples. Meanwhile, the Town Common will be filling quickly with booths. And that’s just the morning!

Throughout the morning, RE/MAX 1st Choice Realty will provide tethered hot air balloon rides. Orchard Christian Fellowship will host a continental breakfast before the road race. The Morrison House will have a demonstration of a Revolutionary War Encampment. Lunch will be available for purchase from the Lion’s, featuring their delicious sausage sandwiches again.

The Londonderry Old Home Day Committee has teamed with the Nutfield YMCA to sponsor water balloon tosses, wheelbarrow races, pie-eating contests, Pinatas, sack races, and so many other great family activities. Family Bingo is back, and officially a part of the Old Home Day celebration. Also continued this year, Londonderry Sings will be hosted to showcase the talented Londonderry folk!

Returning again this year, the Londonderry Old Home Day Committee will host the third Londonderry Town Fair. The fair will feature many handmade and homemade items, baked goods and arts. These items will be on display at the Grange Hall and will be judged, tasted and admired by many. Winners from categories like Yarn Products, Photographs, and Pencil Drawings, will receive prizes.

Babies that are residents of Londonderry born between August 1, 2012 and August 5, 2013, be sure you’ve enter him or her in the Londonderry Old Home Day Baby Contest! Babies will be judged and awarded prizes in these categories: Best Personality; Best Dressed; Best Smile; Little Miss; and Little Master! Preregistration is required and no exceptions will be made.

Be sure not to miss the action at the Bandstand! Entertainment begins at 11:45 AM with the Hudson American Legion Band. The Lancer Drumline will also perform. Applestock will begin at 7 PM and will feature local high school talent! The concert will last until 10:30 PM.

Race begins at 8 AM, rain or shine
Register Friday at the Londonderry High School Gym from 5 PM to 7 PM or Saturday beginning at 6:45 AM
Preregistration fee: $17 for non-Londonderry residents; $15 for Londonderry residents
Race Day Registration: $20 everyone
Racers begin at Lion’s Hall, run south to Peabody Row, onto Buttrick Road, then back up Mammoth Road to finish at Lion’s Hall

Hot Air Balloon Rides
From 7:30 AM until 9:30 AM
On the Matthew Thornton Field

Open from 9 AM until 4 PM, rain or shine
Located on the Town Common

Baby Contest
Starts at 9 AM
Matthew Thornton Gymnasium

Morrison House Museum
Museum, Blacksmith Shop and Colonial Military Camps open for tours from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Events during day include cooking demos, infantry/firing drills, Colonial field surgery demo, and more.

Jacklynn has been a resident in Londonderry since the age of 5. She grew up in a quiet neighborhood and went through the great school system. She has fond memories of bike riding through town in the spring and summer, sledding in the winter, and apple and pumpkin picking in the fall.
