New Hampshire’s Moonlight Meadery came out tops, winning the Regional Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream “Pitch Room” competition. Contestants were asked to bring their best two minute sales pitch about their companies to be evaluated before a panel, including Samuel Adams founder Jim Koch.

Six finalists faced a panel of judges who listened to their best pitch and received feedback and evaluation from experts ranging from executives from Samuel Adams and their retail partners including Tony Giardina, Manager of National Account Programs for the Delaware North Companies; Paul Moran, Senior Regional Partner for Ruby Tuesday Inc.; and Ron Lundy, Manager at a large national drugstore chain. Moonlight Meadery will advance to the final round which will be held in Boston in the beginning of December. The winner will receive a $10,000 business grant as well as extended coaching from a team of Samuel Adams experts.

Samuel Adams founder Jim Koch created the Brewing the American Dream program to help other small business owners in food, beverage and hospitality overcome the same obstacles he faced when he wanted to go from brewing Sam Adams in his kitchen nearly 30 years ago to turning his passion into a business– that is, access to financing and nuts-and-bolts business advice.

Since its creation in 2008, the Brewing the American Dream program, in partnership with nonprofit microlender Accion, has provided more than $2.5 million in microloans to more than 285 small businesses nationwide, coached 3,000-plus professionals, and created or retained more than 1,800 jobs.

Says Moonlight Meadery Founder and Meadmaker Michael Fairbrother, “I am thrilled to have been given a nod from Jim Koch and Samuel Adams. It is rewarding to gain recognition from leaders in the craft brewing industry for the strides we have made in expanding the craft mead category and where we are going with it.”

Founded in 2010, Moonlight Meadery is currently distributed to 27 states and Australia producing mead (the world’s first recorded fermented beverage, traditionally made with honey and water). Moonlight Meadery showcases the diversity of this adult craft beverage offering over 77 varieties (the most registered worldwide currently), ranging from dry to sweet.
