Local Parish to Host Fall Blood Drive

The Saint Jude Parish Community Service Committee is proud to once again sponsor their annual Fall Give Thanks American Red Cross Blood Drive. What better way to give thanks for the past year than to give the Gift of Life!

The drive will be held on Friday November 22, 2013 from 1 PM to 7 PM in the Parish Hall located at 435 Mammoth Road in Londonderry, NH. As in past years, the need for blood donors and products is tremendous. With Thanksgiving late this year, many donors will not have the time during the Christmas season to donate. Currently the Red Cross has less than a few days of available blood products for the New England region. This supply is needed for routine operations, emergency surgeries, etc. Without a replenishment of supply, many routine procedures will need to be postponed.

Did you know that 95% of the US population is able to donate blood, but only 5% of those actually do? Do you remember the long lines to donate after September 11th? Where are they now? The Red Cross is working on new procedures to make the donation process easier, take less time and more comfortable for all. Been a while or never donated? Give it a try at this drive!

As with all of our drives no packaged food here, only the best for our donors. Many Saint Jude volunteers will bake homemade goodies and we will have our Internationally Famous Chili and Chicken Soup prepared by our own Chefs Jim and Paul, the best you have ever had. All of these goodies are hand prepared in appreciation of you being a donor!

Can it get any better than that? Yes, The Red Cross will have giveaways as well for all blood donors! Please consider attending, donating blood and saving a life, or more!

Walk-in donors are welcome, or you can make an appointment by visiting the Red Cross website or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. For more information on the drive, please contact Vinny Curro at vincurro(at)comcast.net.

Also this year, Rosemarie Meuse a Londonderry resident will be present to provide information on the Living Donor Program and provide information on her journey to find a kidney donor. This operation is needed to save Rosemarie’s life. Come meet Rosemarie, hear her story and get information on the many patients waiting for an organ transplant.

Jacklynn has been a resident in Londonderry since the age of 5. She grew up in a quiet neighborhood and went through the great school system. She has fond memories of bike riding through town in the spring and summer, sledding in the winter, and apple and pumpkin picking in the fall. She now has children of her own and looks forward to raising them in the same town she enjoyed so much as a youth.
