Read about that first daring foray off the ground in Conquering the Sky: The Secret Flights of the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk or other monumental aeronautical events in The Golden Age of Travel, by Francis Crosby. Check out The Flight of the Century: Charles Lindbergh to learn more about that famous flight across the Atlantic. Women Aviators: from Amelia Earhart to Sally Ride, Making History in Air and Space, by Bernard Marck reveals the many courageous women who have taken to the skies. Discover how “Brave” Bessie Coleman, an African American worked as a laundress and manicurist to afford flying lessons and became a pioneer in stunt flying or how Harriet Quimby, was the first woman to obtain a flying license in the United States and the first woman to cross the English Channel.
